An unnamed male resident of Makhushane in Phalaborwa was attacked by a crocodile at a local river on Thursday, 13 February 2025.
According to community members, the man had gone to the river to fetch water. Residents say many households in the area are currently experiencing water shortages, forcing villagers to rely on the river for daily needs such as bathing and collecting water for household use.
During the incident, a courageous local man reportedly rushed into the river in an attempt to save the victim. Witnesses say he struck the crocodile with a steel rod, managing to free the man from its grip.
